To better understand local food and farming issues, The Mixing Bowl organized an “Idea Hack” on October 11th, 2014, at TomKat Ranch to identify and develop solutions for the specific ecosystem of the farming town of Pescadero, CA, near Silicon Valley, as well as to stimulate local food production and consumption on the San Francisco Peninsula

Caroline Fey, Owner & Head Chef of The City Kitchen, prepared dinner at TomKat Ranch featuring locally sourced ingredients following the event’s reception.

The agenda included breakout challenges where teams collaborated in real-time to “hack” solutions. Participants included local players familiar in Peninsula food system issues as well as technology and business innovators.

The event’s objective was to encourage a new dialogue for the Peninsula’s local food production and develop a range of actionable solutions.  A byproduct of the Idea Hack was to connect individuals and organizations that could potentially collaborate to bring about desired changes.
